Virtual Pilgrimage: Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii

All are welcome to attend a virtual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii on Saturday, May 8th from 1:30 to 3 pm! We’ll explore spirituality, symbolism, and beauty through this sacred space, and there is no cost to attend. Feel free to email chicago@pietreviveusa.org with any questions. Before the event, you will receive a Zoom link via email.

This series is offered by the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii and Pietre Vive. Pietre Vive is an international Catholic and ecumenical young adult organization that evangelizes faith through the beauty of churches. We are sponsored by the Jesuits and have chapters in 35 cities around the world. The group includes opportunities for young adults (~18-35) to engage in prayer, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, theological and art-historical formation, and service to the public through guided visits of churches, as well as international workshops. See pietre-vive.org or Pietre Vive on Facebook/Instagram/YouTube to learn more.

Rosa Mystica
May 11 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Dear Patrons,

Thank you to everyone who has participated in our Rosa Mystica: A Journey of Renewal and Restoration series. We hope you found inspiration in the visual theology of Marian Art.

The purpose of Rosa Mystica in showcasing Marian art has been a source of spiritual nourishment for all who have participated. Through her images, we can imagine Mary as a person, no more or less than any of us, but with an enormous capacity for inner tranquility that enabled her to act with courage, faith, and love.

We invite you to join us for our fourth lecture, Mary: Mother of All Nations, on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. This program will include interesting perspectives on Madonna images, globally, and how people use these images in their lives.

Reflections will be led by Rebecca Long, the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Associate Curator of European Painting and Sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago and John Shea, theologian and storyteller. Also, in this Rosa Mystica program, Mary Ellen O’Hare-Lavin, a Jungian psychologist, will provide the psychological perspective.

You will hear a status update of The Annunciation restoration and recent discoveries that may verify its 16th century Italian origin. This painting is being restored by The Conservation of Chicago through the generosity of the in part of the Mazza Foundation.
