On a September morning in 1918, praying before the Crucifix in the choir of the old church, Padre Pio received the gift of the stigmata, or visible wounds of the crucifixion, that remained in his body, fresh and bleeding, for half a century, until his death September 23, 1968.
The Holy Father John Paul II granted the title of “Venerable” on December 18, 1997, and he was canonized a saint on June 16, 2002.
The Shrine has held a prayer service to Padre Pio for many years. Many pilgrims place their intentions in his care. Join us the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
