Being Christ for One Another Learning the ‘Art of Accompaniment’

A Bus Pilgrimage Saturday, April 8, 2017 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. * 8:30 a.m. check-in, coffee

For I was a stranger and you welcomed me… Matt 25:35-36

Presenters:

Taller de José * St. Joseph’s Workshop

* How are we to accompany those who encounter difficulties due to illness, lack of food, shelter, schooling and more?

* How do we walk respectfully alongside them, listening, supporting and being present as compassionate friends?

Pope Francis invites us all to practice the “’art of accompaniment’ which teaches us to ‘remove our sandals before the sacred ground of the other” (EG). We are to welcome the stranger as we would welcome Christ. As we prepare for Holy Week, join us on a unique bus pilgrimage to deepen our understanding on how we may do this today. We’ll stop at places in Chicago where people find themselves in need of help such as hospitals, courthouses or social service agencies as we explore the art of accompaniment. Taller de José staff will lead us, inviting reflections and sharing stories of their ministry of accompaniment. Beyond the hours, training and experience, the most important thing staff members offer others is their ability to listen with their heart. Presenters: Taller de José (Staff) is a community resource center with more than 150 partnerships including Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, connecting people to services and services to people. Together they work “welcoming the stranger” and giving clients the tools they need to overcome obstacles when seeking assistance. Located in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood they are a sponsored ministry of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Taller de José works so that “all may be one.”
