2017 Annual Appeal
Dear Friends of the Shrine,
The mission of our Shrine is to be a place of pilgrimage, where all are invited to share in the wonderful grace and mercy of God, through the intercession of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary. This year, many more pilgrims have passed through our beautiful bronze doors, welcomed by guiding angels that lead us in prayer. Entering the Shrine, we pray for peace in troubled times. We sing the praises of God in moments of joy and sorrow. In this holy place, we acknowledge our allegiance to Christ, and seek divine assistance to serve others in need. The Shrine fulfills its mission, therefore, when all who enter leave inspired to bring the Lord to birth in the world, like Mary.
This vital mission is possible because people have been called by Our Lady to work together for the success of her Shrine. You, dear friend, are among those who have been called. And so, each year I write to you and thank you for your generous support of our ministry. Each year, you respond again with generosity. Each year, your support allows us to keep on doing our mission, inspired by Mary, with elegance and love. Each year, in this annual appeal of support, your donations help us:
* to keep our doors open to pilgrims and the heat and the lights on
* to create the prayer and worship services that inspire so many believers
* to provide hospitality and events that make the Shrine a community of welcome, where pilgrims want to return, and that celebrate the Italian-American heritage
* to deepen our lives of faith, in the example of Mary, as we host pilgrimages for those who grieve the death of a child, or a spouse; to engage in prayer and deep reflection; and to encounter people of other religious traditions as friends.
Please take a moment now and help us to keep alive Mary’s example of faith. Your generosity of prayer and financial support allows us to responsibly plan and budget for the next year of our ministry. Thank you for your past help and I trust that we can count on you again this year.
May the blessing of Christ fill your heart and may Mary and Blessed Bartolo Longo, the founder of the original Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii in Italy, reward you for your partnership with her in the work of her Chicago Shrine.
With gratitude and prayer,
Rev. Richard N. Fragomeni, Ph..D., Rector
