January 25A Sister of St. Agnes of Fond du Lac, WI, Dianne Bergant, served on the faculty at Catholic Theological Union from 1978 to 2014. She has earned numerous awards and served on many boards related to theology and Scripture. She has taught and lectured in various places in the United States, as well as in South Africa and Namibia, Trinidad, England and Ireland, Kiribati, Philippines, Thailand, Mexico, Nicaragua, Rome, Australia and New Zealand.
February 22 An environmental interpreter, Amy Lentz is a master’s student in the School of Freshwater Science at University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and History from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Although she grew up in the Chicago area, she has been working with low income and at risk youth in the city of Milwaukee for almost five years. Her presentation will address Food Deserts and their implications for public health and social justice. She will also be discussing the science of less conventional agriculture methods such as aquaponics and vermicomposting. Her hope with this presentation is that it will encourage us all to live a more just and sustainable lifestyle.
March 28 An Agriculturist, Tucker Kelly…joined Urban Autism Solutions (UAS) as the Lead Grower of Growing Solutions Farm in fall 2018. He works closely with young adults with autism and related disabilities from Chicago Public Schools, Easter Seals, and UAS residents, at the farm, providing vocational programming on customer service, food safety, principled agriculture, and environmental stewardship.
Join us at Growing Solutions farm for a brief tour of the facility, after which we will roll up our sleeves and do some planting. Along the way we will learn what a small scale, neighborhood level agricultural production does for our environment.
